Gigabyte motherboards are some of the top of the line motherboards being sold for very reasonable prices. With the motherboard being the central processing system within a computer, they are the brains of computer operations. The motherboard used to consist of a mainframe that had components connected by a backplane, this was later changed by moving all the peripheral functions towards one specific location; the motherboard.

In general, the motherboard is able to expand its performance by the printed circuit it is composed of. During the 80s, these circuits were known as ICs and could only support peripherals that operated at a low speed; mouse, floppy disk drive, keyboard, serial ports, and parallel ports. In the later part of the 90s, these internal circuits had to take charge of much more. They were required to provide support for many audio, video, networking, and storage functions.

The only way computers were able to give this extra support was through an expansion card. This card had to be used for 3D graphics in games and other computer graphics. Two major companies that produced personal computers once actually gave out schematic drawings of ways to upgrade a manufacturer’s original equipment by using a motherboard from a third party. These third party motherboards were supposed to be used for creating new computers, but worked great for upgrading.

All connections for internal computer components communicate with one another through the motherboard. These circuits are also found inside mobile phones, stopwatches, clocks, and other small electronics.

Computers aren’t the only electronic devices that use motherboards either, they can also be found inside of clocks, mobile phones, and stopwatches. The motherboard stores the microprocessing system, the main memory, and other important components as well. It also reads any external devices; video controllers, external storage, or speakers.

These devices are often attached through cards or cables, but many computers have started adding them directly to the motherboard. The chipset is the part that controls the communication between external devices and the computer. This chipset is a group of circuits that act as a single unit. It is part of the motherboard unit, along with power connectors, expansion card slots, sockets, main memory slots, non-volatile memory chips, and a clock generator.

Motherboards not only include the chipset, but also one or more sockets, slots for the main memory, non-volatile memory chips, a clock generator, power connectors, and expansion card slots. Today, almost all motherboards include connectors and logic support for devices that are used often; namely a mouse and keyboard. Gigabyte motherboards have been around since the company started in 1986 and they are still leading the market in graphic accelerators and motherboards.
