The rise of the internet has meant that an increasing number of people who can write are now doing so to earn a living. A good number of writers have degrees in English or can at least write tolerable prose, while others seem to think that writing for a living is something anyone can do.

There are several qualities that you need if you are going to make it in the world of freelancing and these include a good command of English, a fair imagination, a love of writing for its own sake, and the ability to manage your time. All this is great providing everything always runs smoothly.

When you write for a living you may not always enjoy the subject you are writing about, but if you enjoy writing for its own sake you won’t let subject matter stop you. Everyone makes typos and grammatical errors now and again so you should always check any work that you do before sending it off to a client.

However organised you might be there will be times when circumstances and events work against you, which is why you should always give yourself, longer than you might think a project will take.
